A report from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in Greece explores the correlation between systemic inflammation and chronic kidney disease (CKD) in children. The study investigates the levels of various biomarkers, including neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet-lymphocyte ratio (PLR), total iron binding capacity (TIBC), and serum albumin, in pediatric CKD patients. The researchers found that NLR, TIBC, and serum albumin were associated with interleukin-6 (IL-6) levels, while PLR was not. The study suggests that NLR, along with TIBC and serum albumin, may be useful in predicting high IL-6 levels in pediatric CKD patients. [Extracted from the article]
