A recent study conducted by Cornell University Weill Cornell Medical College examined the impact of leg length change and leg-length discrepancy (LLD) on patients undergoing medial unicompartmental knee arthroplasty (UKA) for osteoarthritis. The study found that following the surgery, the majority of patients experienced a moderate increase in leg length, which was positively correlated with the correction in mechanical alignment. Although postoperative substantial LLD was present in 17% of patients, it did not significantly impact patient-reported outcomes or satisfaction at the four-year follow-up. This research provides valuable insights into the clinical implications of leg length change in medial UKA. [Extracted from the article]
