The article investigates, from Peirce's semiotics, the production of meanings of images that have an explicit political or social purpose, which represent the basis of a certain virtual political engagement. Such images are reproduced on a large scale in current social networks, from institutional or individual profiles, and reach considerable engagement metrics. It starts with the hypothesis that the effects of this virtual militancy make engagement images dependent on the same semiotic devices that characterize, for example, memes. The design of digital platforms, heavily dependent on a communicational structure based on feedback and on the so-called "attention economy", is analyzed in the demonstration of how virtual interactions operate in a logic of reinforcing ideas. To obtain such reflection, the study analyzes a political social media post that manifests itself as a meme. In conclusion, the work intends to evaluate how the so-called viralization of political and social causes suffers a process of "memefication", finding limitations in a feedback process of supposedly polarized virtual disputes, at the same time that, swelling the chorus of discontent with hegemonic systems of power, can produce strategies of disidentification and political resistance.
