A report from the First Affiliated Hospital of Anhui Medical University in Hefei, China, discusses the use of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) as a potential treatment for premature ejaculation (PE). The study aimed to investigate whether high-frequency rTMS could modulate ejaculatory behavior in rats with rapid ejaculation by altering neurotransmitter levels and neuroplasticity in the hippocampus. The results showed that rTMS increased ejaculation latency, increased the concentration of 5-hydroxytryptamine in the hippocampus, and activated the brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and tyrosine kinase receptor B (TrkB) pathways. The researchers concluded that rTMS can upregulate BDNF, synaptophysin (SYN), and postsynaptic density protein 95 (PSD95) expression, regulate neuroplasticity, and improve ejaculation.
