The history of the Roman national colleges, which we know under the name of Pontificium Collegium Germanicum et Hungaricum, has been elaborated by many authors. The first history of a German college was written in German by Andreas Steinhuber, in Hungarian by Endre Veres. The most recent synthesis on the history of this institution was written by Peter Walter on the occasion of its 450th anniversary. A survey of the historiography shows that the history of the College has been written mainly with a synthesizing approach. An analytical approach provides new possibilities for research, especially by making use of the rich archives. Until now, the so-called ordinance books with the precise title „Liber, in quo scribuntur Alumni Collegÿ Germanici et Vngarici, qui praemisso examine et approbatione aliquo initiantur Ordine" have remained outside the deeper interest of historians. The codex has entries by first name on pages 1-185, orientation is aided by a detailed name index. The first record dates back to 1597. Subsequently, the construction of the text changes and the records are linked to ordinance places and events. The last entry in the book is from 1713. There is a separate compendium at the end of the work where the names of those who passed the ordination examinations are recorded. Of course, the work bears the signs of the handwriting of several recorders; mostly at intervals of ten or twenty years the recorder was changed. Criticism of the text shows that information was added to the text also after some time. The importance of this source is that it can provide information about students in case they are not entered in the school registers. This is especially the case for German students; students from Hungary are carefully kept in both records, which correlate. The work is especially useful as a prosopographical and biographical work. The study provides further details and facts about this interesting and valuable source. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
Doteraz ostali mimo hlbšieho záujmu historikov tzv. ordinančné knihy s presným názvom „Liber, in quo scribuntur Alumni Collegÿ Germanici et Vngarici, qui praemisso examine et approbatione aliquo initiantur Ordine". [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
