A study conducted at Ohio State University investigated the relationship between acute inflammatory cytokine response and prepotent response inhibition. The study involved 171 postmenopausal breast cancer survivors who received a typhoid capsular polysaccharide vaccination and a saline placebo injection. The participants completed cognitive tasks and had their blood drawn to measure interleukin-1 receptor antagonist and interleukin-6 responses. The results showed that the inflammatory cytokine response did not impact response inhibition, and in fact, women were better able to inhibit their prepotent responses after receiving the typhoid vaccine. Further research is needed to explore the effects of the acute inflammatory cytokine response on other aspects of impulsivity. [Extracted from the article]
