A new study published by a researcher from the University of East Anglia explores the concept of affordances in experimental psychology. The study aimed to replicate the handle compatibility effect, which is characterized by faster reaction times when the orientation of a graspable object's handle is compatible with the hand used to respond. However, the study failed to replicate this effect. Additionally, the study found that there is a lower visual field advantage for affordances, suggesting that actions most frequently occur in the lower visual field. The study recommends further exploration of the impact of eye movements on the handle compatibility effect and tool affordances. [Extracted from the article]
