A recent study conducted at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, examined 17 cases of soft tissue sarcomas harboring EWSR1::PATZ1 fusions. The tumors were found in both men and women, with a median age of 50 years. The tumors exhibited various features, including round to spindled cells, fibromyxoid matrix, fibrous bands, and hyalinized vessels. Immunohistochemical analysis showed positive results for markers such as desmin, MyoD1, and S100 protein. The study found that the prognosis for these rare sarcomas may be more favorable than previously reported. Further long-term follow-up is needed to confirm these findings.
