A recent study conducted by researchers at Universidad Autonoma de Yucatan in Mexico explored the association between the thickness of lumbar subcutaneous fat tissue (LSFTT) and the presence of hernias in adults with persistent, non-traumatic low back pain. The study included 174 patients who underwent magnetic resonance imaging, and the results showed that the odds of herniation increased with higher LSFTT values. The researchers concluded that LSFTT can be used to predict the presence of hernias, with higher LSFTT values indicating a higher likelihood of hernias. This study provides valuable insights into the relationship between lumbar subcutaneous fat tissue and low back pain. [Extracted from the article]
