Researchers at Inner Mongolia University for Nationalities have published a new study on rheumatoid arthritis therapy. The study focuses on the use of biomimetic and inflammation-targeted nanoparticles to induce apoptosis and re-polarization of M1 macrophages, which play a role in the persistent progression of inflammation and destruction in rheumatoid arthritis joints. The nanoparticles were found to effectively reduce the number of inflammatory macrophages, secretion of pro-inflammatory cytokines, and destruction of cartilage or bone tissues in a mouse model of arthritis. The findings suggest that these nanoparticles have potential for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis by targeting M1 macrophages. [Extracted from the article]
