The study examined the impact of dialect on senior secondary school students' achievement in Igbo writing in Uzo-uwani local government Area of Enugu State, Nigeria. Descriptive experimental research design was used. Simple random sampling ws used to select 40 students from two schools. Instruments used for data collection were 20-item questionnaire on the impact of dialect on students' achievement on Igbo writing (QOISAIW) and test. The instruments were developed by the researcher and validated by experts in Arts Education Department, and Measurement and Evaluation Department, Faculty of Education, University of Nigeria, Nsukka. Two research questions and two hypothesis tested at 0.05 level of significance were formulated to guide the study.. Reliability coefficient of 0.86 was obtained .The data collected were analyzed using mean score and standard deviation while t-test was used to analyse the hypothesis. Findings reveal that dialect interefere with the pronounciation of Igbo language students from uzo uwani local government Area. Based on the findings, it was recommended that government should package training programmes that will help teachers to have practical knowledge of new methods of teaching the subject in the area of pronounciation, provision of instructional materials to teach the subject for effective curriculum implementation in the school system especially in the rural schools. Parents should be communicating with their children in the standard Igbo tone to improve their pronounciation competence. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
