A new report from Johns Hopkins University explores the association between adipokines (adiponectin, leptin, and resistin) and the risk of venous thromboembolism (VTE). The study analyzed data from 1,888 participants in the Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis cohort who were initially free of VTE. After adjusting for various factors, the researchers found that higher levels of resistin were independently associated with a greater risk of incident VTE. However, larger prospective cohort studies are needed to confirm this association. This research has been peer-reviewed and published in the Journal of Thrombosis and Haemostasis.
