A new report discusses research findings on post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and major depressive disorder (MDD) in relation to the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC). The study conducted the first single-nucleus RNA-seq postmortem brain study in PTSD, identifying significant differentially expressed genes in excitatory and inhibitory neurons and astrocytes. The study highlights the importance of examining cell-type-specific gene expression and suggests promising biomarkers and therapeutic targets for PTSD and MDD. The research was funded by various organizations, including the National Institute of Mental Health and the US Department of Veterans Affairs. [Extracted from the article]
