Researchers from Chifeng University in Inner Mongolia, China have conducted a study on spinal cord injury (SCI) and its association with neuronal apoptosis. They found that the transcriptional factor Gli-similar 3 (GLIS3) plays a role in inhibiting neuronal apoptosis and promoting functional recovery after SCI. GLIS3 was found to increase in expression in spinal cord tissues of SCI mice, and its overexpression led to improved functional recovery, preserved histological changes, and reduced neuronal apoptosis. The study also identified Mps one binder kinase activator 1b (Mob1b) as a target gene of GLIS3 that is associated with SCI. The findings suggest that GLIS3 could be a potential target for promoting functional recovery after SCI. [Extracted from the article]
