A recent study conducted at Cleveland Clinic Florida analyzed trends in the treatment and outcomes of anal melanoma over a 17-year period. The study found that patients diagnosed between 2013 and 2020 underwent fewer abdominoperineal resections and more local tumor excisions compared to those diagnosed between 2004 and 2012. Additionally, immunotherapy was more frequently administered in the later time period and was associated with longer median overall survival. Age and private insurance were identified as significant predictors of overall survival, regardless of the time period. This research provides valuable insights into the evolving outcomes of surgery for anal melanoma. [Extracted from the article]
