A study conducted by the University of Michoacana in Morelia, Mexico, has found that avocado oil may delay kidney injury in type 2 diabetic rats by improving serum adiponectin levels and renal mitochondrial dysfunction. The research suggests that strategies to enhance blood adiponectin levels could be used as a therapeutic approach for treating diabetic nephropathy. The study involved feeding diabetic rats standard rodent chow plus avocado oil, which resulted in improved adiponectin levels and mitochondrial function, as well as decreased proteinuria and glomerular degeneration. The findings indicate that avocado oil intake may be a nutritional strategy for attenuating diabetic nephropathy. [Extracted from the article]
