A study conducted by researchers from Heilongjiang Bayi Agricultural University in Daqing, China, focused on the mechanisms of damage caused by the antitumor drug cisplatin in African green monkey kidney cells. The study found that cisplatin compromised cell viability by increasing reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels, leading to apoptosis. The researchers also discovered that cisplatin reduced the levels of Peroxiredoxin I (Prx I) and Peroxiredoxin II (Prx II), which are involved in scavenging ROS. The study suggests that targeting Prx proteins and ROS could potentially mitigate the nephrotoxic effects of cisplatin. [Extracted from the article]
