A report from Amsterdam University Medical Center discusses the treatment of lymphatic malformations (LMs) in the head and neck of pediatric patients. The researchers conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of literature on this topic. The analysis found that there were no significant differences in volume reduction between sclerotherapy and surgical treatment at the study level. However, individual patient data indicated that surgery and larger cyst types were associated with a higher percentage of volume reduction, while a higher de Serres stage had a negative impact on volume reduction. The findings can be used for patient counseling and treatment planning based on cyst type and de Serres stage. [Extracted from the article]
