In Türkiye, power generation from renewable energy sources, which has become increasingly significant in recent years, is conducted by methods such as solar, wind, geothermal and biomass. Floating solar energy power plants (Floating SPP) are one of the renewable energy generation systems which convert solar energy into electricity through photovoltaic (PV) panels mounted on platforms on water surface. The system can be installed on various water masses such as lakes, ponds, lagoons, dams, canals, irrigation ponds, water treatment plants, etc. Increased evaporation in dams and water channels irrigated with excessive irrigation in agriculture due to climate change, global wars, energy supply imbalance due to pandemics, and increased electricity costs have also resulted in increased interest in renewable energy. Upon completion of Floating Solar Energy Power Plant at Bayındır Dam (Mavi Lake) in Mamak District of Ankara Province tendered by Ankara Municipality Waterworks, ASKİ R&D Dept.; with successful implementation of the system, the project stands out in terms of being first of its kind in Türkiye, and shedding light on subsequent studies. The Floating Solar System to be installed over the lake is 137 x 65 meters long and is located on an area of approximately 9 thousand square meters. In scope of the project, initially bathymetric measurements were made to determine the lake bottom sediments, local currents, waves and lake basin topography. The method for fixing the system onto water was determined according to data such as lake bottom topography, seismic measurements, and the amount of siltation covering the lake bottom, which were taken from bathymetric measurements made prior to geotechnical studies. Afterwards, research drilling was carried out at 9 different points on the lake bottom in order to determine the geological and geotechnical properties of the field. According to units encountered during drilling, it was deemed sufficient to perform SPT test, and undisturbed sampling (UD), varieties of field tests; and Vane test, a variety of in situ test. Geological survey studies were conclued by analysing on-site tests carried out during drilling, laboratory tests on drilling samples, the surroundings of the field and observations in the region. The elements occasionally consist of dam fill levels, loam, very soft-medium solid clay, clayey gravel units, weathered bedrock and bedrock (limestone, sandstone, greywacke). According to geotechnical calculations, since there is no negative condition in safely transferring the building loads to superficial foundations, it was deemed appropriate to use concrete blocks as the fixing method instead of fixing methods such as mini piles and driven piles. 17 concrete blocks, weighing 4-5 tons and measuring 1.85 x 2.00 meters, were fixed to the water with ropes. According to calculations made based on the surface area and the stress to be transferred to the ground, the load from concrete block to the base is factored to be 10 kPa. The strength values of the units encountered during drilling were factored to be 34.8 kPa in very soft to soft clay and 116 kPa in mediumsolid to solid clay. Therefore, it was concluded that these values are sufficient to bear the loads that will be transferred from the concrete to the ground. Likewise, according to geotechnical calculations, no settlement, slipping or sinking is expected after the concrete blocks are placed in the mud levels, other than settling as much as the thickness of the mud itself.
