National Grid plans to invest over $4 billion in upgrading the power grid in Upstate New York through a project called Upstate Upgrade. This project consists of multiple transmission enhancement projects aimed at creating a smarter, stronger, and cleaner energy grid. The upgrades will improve the grid's resilience during extreme weather events, strengthen the local economy by creating new jobs and generating economic growth, and ensure that the grid can meet the increasing demands of customers and industries. National Grid will construct or rebuild transmission lines and substations, as well as implement new technologies to protect the grid from extreme weather conditions. [Extracted from the article]
