A recent study conducted by researchers from the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) found that many physicians lack familiarity with the FDA's drug and medical device approval processes. Out of a national sample of 509 internists, cardiologists, and oncologists, only 41% reported a moderate or better understanding of the FDA's drug approval process, and only 17% reported a moderate or better understanding of the FDA's medical device approval process. The study also revealed that physicians value more rigorous premarket evidence and believe that the FDA should revoke approval for drugs and devices that do not demonstrate safety and effectiveness in postmarket studies. This research has been peer-reviewed and can be accessed in the journal Health Affairs. [Extracted from the article]
