Researchers from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem have conducted a study on hormone replacement therapy (HRT) and its effects on heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) in post-menopausal women. The study involved ovariectomy and estrogen replacement in female mice, and the researchers found that ovariectomy triggered an early increase in the gene expression of pro-inflammatory and pro-fibrotic factors. However, HRT reversed these changes and upregulated cardiac miRNA-26a, which was previously unknown to be affected by menopausal status. This research provides insights into the mechanisms underlying HFpEF in post-menopausal women and the potential benefits of HRT. [Extracted from the article]
