A new report from researchers at Peking University Cancer Hospital and Institute highlights the epidemiological characteristics of neuroendocrine neoplasms (NENs) in Beijing, China. The study, which used population-based cancer surveillance data from 1998 to 2018, found that the incidence of NENs initially increased significantly but began to plateau after 2013. The most common sites of NENs were the lung and rectum, and most cases were diagnosed at a late stage. The study also found that NENs originating from the lung had worse overall survival than extrapulmonary NENs, and male patients had worse survival than female patients. The findings provide valuable information for the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of NENs in Beijing. [Extracted from the article]
