A recent report from Zhejiang University in China discusses the growing concern of ceftriaxone-resistant Salmonella Enteritidis (CRO-RSE) and its impact on public health. The study collected 235 S. Enteritidis isolates from Hangzhou First People's Hospital between 2010 and 2020, with 8.51% of the isolates exhibiting resistance to ceftriaxone. Whole-genome analysis revealed that these resistant isolates harbored plasmids encoding the bla[CTX-M-55] or bla[CTX-M-14] gene. The plasmids were found to have different structures and replicons, with type B plasmids showing superior adaptability and stability. The research highlights the need for further investigation into the resistance mechanisms and transmission characteristics of CRO-RSE. [Extracted from the article]
