A scoping review conducted by researchers at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai explored the use of novel inhaled vasodilators, milrinone and levosimendan, as alternatives to conventional inhaled therapies for pulmonary hypertension (PH) in cardiac surgery. The review included 17 studies with a total of 969 patients and found that milrinone and levosimendan showed potential benefits such as ease of weaning from cardiopulmonary bypass and reduction in ventricular dysfunction. However, the review also noted that high-quality data are limited and more consistent outcome measures are needed to validate the effectiveness of these agents. The study was registered with the Open Science Framework. [Extracted from the article]
