Researchers at Taizhou Municipal Hospital in China have conducted a study on spinal cord injury (SCI) and identified a potential therapy. The study found that oxidative stress is a major factor in SCI and can lead to mitochondrial damage, ferroptosis, and apoptosis in neural cells. The researchers developed a multifunctional nanovesicle called IDE@PPNs, which contains idebenone and proanthocyanidin polyphenol nanovesicles. In animal studies, IDE@PPNs promoted motor function recovery and suppressed ferroptosis and apoptosis in neurons. The researchers concluded that IDE@PPNs have great potential for SCI therapy.
