A recent study conducted by Professor Andree Hartanto from Singapore Management University (SMU) has found that work-life imbalance can significantly increase the risk of cardiovascular diseases. The study, published in the Journal of Psychosomatic Research, analyzed data from the National Survey of Midlife Development in the United States (MIDUS) II Biomarker Project and MIDUS Refresher: Biomarker Project. The results showed that negative work-to-family spillover predicted higher triglycerides and lower HDL, which are biomarkers associated with hardening of the arteries and elevated cholesterol levels. The study highlights the importance of work-life balance for both mental and physical health. [Extracted from the article]
