The article discusses emerging trends in the U.S. food industry in 2006. According to the Mintel Global New Products Database (GNPD), more than 700 new foods and dietary supplements containing antioxidants were introduced in 2006, representing a rise of 400% from the 2001 figure of 176. Products that target specific conditions such as indigestion, lactose intolerance, and food allergy also grew in number during the year. The number of new products claiming to have digestive enzymes or probiotic cultures also increased.
