The article focuses on the role of Alexander Hamilton on the enforcement of Alien and Sedition Laws of 1798 in the U.S. Most biographers are unanimous in absolving him from guilt of enacting the expulsion policy. Based on the postscript written by Hamilton, he cautioned the Federalists not to be cruel or violent in forming the law, he himself had favored the Alien and Sedition Laws but was apprehensive of the occurrence of civil war due to the framing of the said legislation.
