The article provides brief accounts of the life and works of the poet John Campbell. He was probably born in 1705, in Argyllshire, Scotland. He was entirely uneducated in his youth and never attained any knowledge of the English language. He became acquainted with the Scriptures in his vernacular language and he paraphrased many passages in harmonious verses. His hymns retain much popularity among the Gael.
