The article explores the U.S. strategy to combat the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction (WMD). The country became the world leader in addressing the new challenges to the proliferation of WMD. Unlike the past administrations, under the leadership of U.S. President George W. Bush, the country would seek to combine all elements of national power to counter the full spectrum of WMD threats. One of the pillars of the U.S. approach is the development of the capability to reduce and mitigate the consequences of possible WMD use.
