The author focuses on biofuels and mass spectrometry (MS). He relates that petroleum-related gas chromatography mass spectrometry (GC-MS) applications in the 1950s were a founding cornerstone of contemporary mass spectrometry. He notes that one area of endeavor that likely to yield good results in the renewable bioenergy field involves biofuels made from plants. He cites that Europe leads in the production of biodiesel where that U.S. has concentrated on developing ethanol.
