The article discusses the transitional research model that incorporates genetic laboratory methodology to understand whether the response to head trauma is related to genotype. It explores the usability of the model to help investigators examine the single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in various athletic populations. Also noted are the additional concussion-assessment tools, balance and neuropsychological testing, that could be used to strengthen the head-impact outcomes assessment.
