This historical essay aims to contribute to the study of the vast agricultural estate called Cerrone and its ancient farmstead with a closed courtyard, located almost at the confluence of the Dora Baltea river and the Po river in the municipality of Crescentino. Abandoned for centuries as a barren and unproductive area, it was also neglected by the reclamation works carried out by the monks of the Benedictine abbey in San Genuario di Lucedio, to which it belonged since the 8th century. Conflicts and disputes over its use began in the 15th century, when Crescentino, as a political and social urban centre, sought to expand its jurisdiction with the strong support of the Counts Tizzoni, lords of the village. During their settlement process, they felt the need to clear all the land that had remained uncultivated and create farming units that were functional to the economy of the countryside. To this purpose, they built large modern farmsteads, as in the case of Cerrone. The dispute over the ownership and use of this border farm reached its peak at the beginning of the 17th century with the claims of Count Scaglia di Verrua, who was interested in creating a lordly area on the right bank of the Po. This started a long dispute that ended only in 1732. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
