This article focuses on case study that deals with retardation in a child with an extra submetacentric chromosome fragment and partial mongolism. Recent advances in the techniques of chromosome preparation paved the way for the discovery that certain well-known clinical syndromes are caused by numerical or structural changes in the somatic chromosomes. A notable example of numerical change is mongolism which is associated with trisomy of a chromosome in group G. The article authors are reporting clinical, chromosomal and laboratory findings in the retarded child. The interest in this 4 year old girl is increased by the fact that opinions of authoritative clinicians were divided in classifying her as a mongol, definitely not mongol and partially mongol.
