The article reports that clusters of new stores are popping up throughout the city, and existing retailers are devoting more floor space to highly profitable accessory departments. Established apparel designers are using accessories to expand their brands, and specialty retailers. Department and apparel stores want to push accessories as hard as possible because these goods offer higher sales per square foot and provide better margins. Smaller specialty stores are getting in on the action by clustering in retail hot spots that offer shop after shop of shoes, handbags and jewelry.
