A recent study conducted by researchers at the University of Rome "Tor Vergata" has found a potential association between a genetic variant in the vitamin D receptor (VDR) gene and the response to therapy in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients. The study, which included 178 Italian patients with RA, examined the rs11568820 variant in the promoter region of the VDR gene and its relationship to remission rates in patients receiving anti-TNF drugs. The findings suggest that the variant T allele of rs11568820 may be associated with a reduced remission rate in RA patients receiving anti-TNFa drugs. Further research is needed to fully understand the role of VDR genetic variability in the response to therapy and achieving remission in RA patients. [Extracted from the article]
