A study conducted by South Valley University examined the effects of the antiviral drugs sofosbuvir and ribavirin on various biological activities in male albino rats. The study found that sofosbuvir alone and in combination with ribavirin caused significant decreases in hematological, immunological, hormonal, and biochemical parameters, as well as acute pancreatitis and combined immunodeficiency. Ribavirin was associated with hormonal deficiency and myelosuppression. However, the combination of ribavirin with sofosbuvir improved the immunodeficiency caused by sofosbuvir and reduced the side effects of both drugs. The study also noted that the drugs were associated with a reduced risk of hepatocellular carcinoma. [Extracted from the article]
