Researchers from Sun Yat-Sen University have conducted a study on gastric cancer, specifically focusing on the role of circular RNAs (circRNAs) in controlling macrophage function. They discovered that a circRNA called circATP8A1 is highly expressed in gastric cancer tissues and exosomes derived from plasma. Increased circATP8A1 was associated with advanced TNM stage and worse prognosis in patients with gastric cancer. The study found that circATP8A1 induces the M2 polarization of macrophages through the STAT6 pathway by competitively binding to miR-1-3p. This research highlights circATP8A1 as a potential prognostic biomarker and therapeutic target in gastric cancer. [Extracted from the article]
