A report from Iwate Medical University in Yahaba, Japan, provides new insights into a rare chromosomal anomaly called 17q12 deletion syndrome. The syndrome is caused by the deletion of a segment on chromosome 17q12 and can result in a wide range of clinical manifestations, including maturity-onset diabetes of the young, kidney and liver abnormalities, facial dysmorphic features, electrolyte disorders, keratoconus, and acquired perforating dermatosis. The research highlights the clinical spectrum of this rare syndrome and was supported by the Japan Diabetes Foundation and Costco Wholesale Japan. [Extracted from the article]
