A preprint abstract from biorxiv.org discusses the potential of the longevity-promoting intervention 17-estradiol (17E2) to protect against age-related impairments in mice with the APOE4 genotype, which is associated with decreased longevity and increased vulnerability to age-related declines and disorders. The study found that APOE4 mice had poorer outcomes compared to APOE3 mice across various measures, but 17E2 treatment improved outcomes specifically in APOE4 mice. These findings suggest that interventions promoting longevity may be beneficial in mitigating age-related risks associated with the APOE4 genotype. It is important to note that this preprint has not yet undergone peer review. [Extracted from the article]
