A recent study investigated the relationship between a specific gene polymorphism and polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) in adult women. The study found that women with PCOS had a higher frequency of a mutant allele of the IL-6-174 G/C promoter gene, which was associated with increased levels of circulating IL-6 and indicators of metabolic risk. Additionally, women with PCOS and the mutant genotype were more likely to have a higher waist-to-hip ratio and homeostatic model assessment index. These findings suggest that the IL-6-174 G/C promoter mutant genotype may be linked to increased IL-6 levels and the development of metabolic syndrome in women with PCOS. However, it is important to note that this study has not yet undergone peer review. [Extracted from the article]
