A recent study conducted by researchers at Kanazawa University in Japan investigated the clinical features and outcomes of Shoshin beriberi, a severe form of wet beriberi. The study analyzed data from a nationwide database and identified 62 patients with Shoshin beriberi. The most common comorbidity among these patients was alcohol-related disorder, and the median length of hospital stay was 17 days. The study found that impaired consciousness at admission was significantly associated with in-hospital death. This research provides valuable insights into the clinical characteristics of Shoshin beriberi and highlights the importance of early intervention. [Extracted from the article]
