Abstract: To continue to emancipate the mind is the primary principle of practice advocated by the 17th National Congress of CPC. However, the understanding of this principle varies from person to person, which makes it necessary to have a meta-theoretical examination of the intrinsic requirements of the principle. The basic content of the principle is to acknowledge the subject position of thinkers, to ratify the critical attitude toward any established premise, and to confirm its purpose as seeking truth. The principle of emancipating the mind is absolute in that the boundlessness of the practice of human beings determines the boundlessness of mind emancipation; the principle of emancipating the mind is relative in that it is under the restriction of the principle of seeking truth from facts and the basic value of people-orientatedness. At the present stage, the unification of these two aspects of the principle requires that we not only hold high the great banner of socialism with Chinese characteristics but also preserve in emancipating the mind, make theoretical creations relentlessly and promote practice progressively.
