This article is centred on the description of some of the characteristics (dramaturgical, political, and social) that the personage of the servant assumes in the theatre of the French Revolution. Liberated from the prejudices that generally affected them during the ancien régime, the household staff take on an ever more «egalitarian» role in real life, like in the pièces written between 1789 and 1794, pièces in which the playwrights seek to present the numerous transformations taking place during the French Revolution.
