The federally funded National Writing Project has 167 sites in 49 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico. Of the eight sites in Mississippi, the Live Oak Writing Project is the newest, based at the Gulf Coast campus of the University of Southern Mississippi in Long Beach. A Congressional Committee on Appropriations special hearing was held to review the success and importance of federally funded teacher training programs, specifically the National Writing Project and the Live Oak Writing Project. This booklet contains the minutes of the hearing.
